Summer Intern Farewell

Alas! Summer is coming to an end, which means my time here with The Twiggs Group is as well.

I am truly thankful for this experience and all that it has taught me. I feel that the skills I’ve learned and the work I have done has prepared me not only for my junior year classes but the real world and workplace.

I would not be here writing this if Allyson hadn’t taken me under her wing and showed me all the ins and outs of how she runs her business. Not only was she my “boss,” she was, and still is my mentor. She has helped guide me with tasks for The Twiggs Group, and she took the time to help me create my blog.

From sitting in on client meetings to managing social media accounts I can’t think of anything else I would’ve rather spent my summer doing. I really mean that too, I can’t express enough how prepared this internship made me for school, and more importantly life after school.

I hope you all enjoyed my posts about Snapchat and how to better understand and work through the app. It was so much fun being able to write about an app that I love and use every day.

As I continue my journey, I will keep all the lessons I’ve learned from this experience and use them in the workplace and the real world. The Twiggs Group will always hold a special place in my heart, and I’m sad our time together has to end.

If you want to continue with me on my journey, be sure to follow my blog!

Jasmine: June NWA PRSA Lunch

Hey guys, it’s Jasmine again.

A few weeks ago I had the privilege to sit in on NWA’s monthly PRSA meeting. Jackie Wolven was the speaker, and she talked about my favorite topic…social media!

Wolven manages the social media accounts for Eureka Springs, a very diverse and eclectic town in Northern Arkansas.

Although I do not have my own personal business yet, or fully manage someone else’s, I was able to learn a lot that I will be able to use when those moments arise. jackieprsa

One of the most interesting topics she talked about was how Instagram “takeovers” can enhance the exposure of the account and increase interaction with followers.

I’ve heard of these types of takeovers before, but they are usually done by celebrities trying to promote their new movie or something along those lines. The idea that regular people like you and I could “takeover” the account of our city/town or even just a local business for a day is awesome!

Of course, Ms. Wolven sets parameters for the takeovers so that they don’t post something that is out of line with the brand. For the most part though, she allows them to post pictures, or videos of what they find interesting about their town (Eureka Springs).

Overall my experience at the NWA PRSA meeting went very well, I felt like I learned a lot, and I was able to meet many different PR pros that work in a variety of PR fields.

AT BLOG GRAPHICSay hello to the last Friday of June…can you believe it? Lately, June has felt like August so maybe we’ll get lucky and August will feel like June…probably not though.

So, I needed a new, bigger desk so I ordered one from Office Depot and then spent an evening putting it together along with a filing cabinet.  Let me tell you, I hate putting together furniture! It’s so tedious and time consuming.  Assembling it, I thought about those people who have to write the directions, they must be pretty intelligent folks.  I could not write those directions if I had to.  Now I have a new beautiful desk and filing cabinet, plus a blister on my thumb and sore hands from using a screw driver 3,982 times.  (ps: this is not a favorite!)

But these are…enjoy!

Need tips on how to pitch your business, product or idea?

What to do if you hate your job…I did, so I started my own business.

I do love a notebook/journal…gotta learn how to bullet journal.

☞ Speaking of starting your own business….here’s what not to do.

I was so happy that Cleveland won!

Have a great weekend…since next Friday is the start of a long, holiday weekend…I’ll skip it and return on Friday, July 8th.  Stay cool.

How to Use Snapchat Filters

Hey there, it’s Jasmine, ready to talk more about my favorite social media platform…Snapchat!

Snapchat has recently unlocked a whole new way to take pictures. With the recent release of new facial recognition technology users are able to add funny filters to their faces…just wait..it gets better.

IMG_6067
With these new filters users can alter the appearance of their face into different things, some are very flattering, others are like fun house mirrors, and some are just down right scary!

Using these filters is super simple:

– Press and hold your finger on your face
– Wait for the facial recognition to register your face
– Swipe left or right until you find the filter you want to use
– Have fun sending silly pictures to your friends!

Some filters even change their appearance if you open your mouth or raise your eyebrows (say what)!

Along with these fun effects, businesses are jumping on the bandwagon to promote themselves! The movie industry and restaurants in particular.

IMG_6388A few weeks ago Walgreens had a sponsored filter to promote their Red Nose Day event.

Whenever the new X-Men movie came out, users were able to transform their faces into the different characters. The recent release of Finding Dory prompted a special filter that made it seem like users were underwater with the lovable Blue Tang.

Even though the branded filters offer the most excitement, I don’t think any filter can compete with the “face swap” feature.

IMG_6620Face swapping is really as simple as it sounds, when two people get in the camera and activate this filter, their faces switch! I have spent hours upon hours switching facIMG_6624es with different people in my family and my friends…the laughs are endless.

Have you tried Snapchat filters? Which one is your favorite?
